trust me, I don’t know what I’m doing

but I know where the broom is, and the hammer, and the number to call
if things get bad. I know who my friends are, and how when I put the kettle on,
something settles inside. I know how jubilant I get at the sight of the first
tomatoes, and how certain sunscreens smell like Hawaii, and how talking
sometimes helps, but dancing always does. I know that when a cat is purring,
I feel like a good person, and that when I’m not in a hurry, I pay closer attention,
and also the other way around. I know that riding a bicycle makes me braver
than yesterday, and I know promises are like glass vases you try not to drop,
but do. I know even the acrobats believe in gravity. I know that what’s done
is done, and also that you can start over, and also that you don’t have to.
