Tri-Writing:
A short-form writing practice, 3 lines at a time

Dates: May 6-25, 2024
Cost: Sliding scale ($21-$59)
Online community classroom, self-paced

This short-term, short-form practice offers an invitation to experiment with parameters and limitations, and to discover the ways efficiency and brevity can deepen, strengthen, and inspire our writing. Condensing our narrative to three lines is about reducing our focus to essential details, touching on the heart-center of a story or a moment or a feeling without getting distracted by context-setting, commentary, or extraneous detours. Of course, three lines may be inescapably fragmented pieces of the whole - they may not and perhaps cannot speak to the entirety of it. However, you will discover an increased discernment with what to include or exclude, you will undoubtedly develop sharp editing and storytelling skills as you go, and you may be very surprised to recover the stories waiting in the wings of your mind!

how it works

The course will take place on the easy-to-use Ruzuku platform. Each day’s prompt will include both a photograph and a written jumpstart. Your three lines can take the form of sentences, sentence fragments, etc. You may also choose to write a longer piece of writing in response to the prompt and then pare that down to 3 lines.

You will join a group of fellow participants so you can share, exchange, and connect with others. I’ll provide some parameters and invitations for a safe, encouraging, and generative dynamic. The Ruzuku platform allows for easy interaction between group members.

At the end of the session, I’ll be hosting a Zoom call (2 days & times available) for participants to connect, reflect on their experience, ask questions, read a selection of their work, and talk shop. I am also offering participants the option of a reduced-rate (25% off) 30-minute or 1-hour one-on-one session with me at any time throughout the session dates. Please email me if you’d like to schedule this.

Tri Writing is a dynamic and inspiring way to begin or continue a writing practice and to stay accountable to it!
